Achieving Fitness: An Adventure Approach

Who should attend?

Physical educators, fitness trainers, health educators, camp counselors, after-school personnel, staff who work with youth at risk or adjudicated youth,  those interested in supporting student's and clients' health-related fitness.

You will:
  • Review basic fitness principals.
  • Review core concepts in adventure programming and understand how they are connected to improving health-related fitness.
  • Learn the concept of student self-efficacy and its role in improving health-related fitness.
  • Learn how this methodology increases engagement, participation and enjoyment in fitness activities.
  • Practice a variety of activities designed to support students' achievement of health-related fitness including cardiovascular, muscular strength/endurance, flexibility and body composition.
  • Learn to integrate both the Achieving Fitness:  An Adventure Activity Guide and the Achieving Fitness:  Student Journal into your own fitness program.
  • Receive a copy of the book and journal.

Prerequisites: Participants need a basic knowledge of both adventure and fitness education. Recommended by not required:  A Project Adventure foundational workshop or equivalent.

Number of days: 2

Graduate credit: 2 or 4 CEUs: 2.4
