Who should attend?

Facilitators who use a Zip Wire

Are you trained to run a Zip Wire in a manner that minimizes the risk to both you and your participants? There have been a disproportionate number of serious accidents on the Zip Wire in the past year, involving both instructional staff and program participants.

The Zip Wire continues to be a very effective activity, but proper operation and management is essential, requiring highly focused training. On many courses, the Zip Wire is the only element where participants transfer belay systems at height, and where staff must remain at height for extended periods of time. Be sure that you have the appropriate level of training to manage this element. Essential skills need to be taught and practiced. Project Adventure is committed to assisting you in managing high quality programs using many different elements, and doing so in an environment that minimizes risk.

The curriculum for this one-day training includes:

  • Review and discussion of Zip Wire accidents
  • Proper set-up and take-down procedures
  • Managing belay transfers at height
  • Current recommendations on Zip corridors
  • Managing the safety of program facilitators
  • Accident prevention strategies

We recommend that participants, at a minimum, have completed Adventure Programming or Adventure Based Counseling workshop (or equivalent) and be comfortable with basic technical skills (e.g. belaying, knot tying), etc. before participating in this workshop.

This one-day workshop for a minimum of six hours.
