Adventure Program Management: Critical Knowledge for the Challenge Course Manager

Who should attend?

Ideal for challenge course managers, program directors, risk managers, department chairs, lead technical staff and others who want to stay current with acceptable standards and practices in the challenge course industry.  This workshop is required for those seeking Project Adventure's Challenge Course Manager Certification and those programs seeking Project Adventure's Program Accreditation.  This workshop is more content-focused than activity focused.

You will:

  • Learn content that is critical for the overall operation of a quality adventure program.
  • Learn safety and risk management information tools, such as medical screening and Emergency Action Plans.
  • Be introduced to accident and incident analysis and documentation.
  • Learn how to utilize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Local Operating Procedures (LOPs).
  • Discuss staff hiring, training and retention.
  • Discover how intentional program design plays a key role in program and risk management.
  • Explore ways to gain support for your program.
  • Be able to have a positive impact on the caliber of your program and staff.

This three-day workshop begins at 9:00 A.M. the first day and ends by 5:00 P.M. the final day. Registration begins at 8:30 A.M. the first day.

Graduate credits: 2 or 4
CEUs: 2.4

Prerequisites:  Recommended by not required - Advanced Skills and Standards

Program Managers may want to consider Project Adventure's Skills Audit and Verification Services.  A Senior PA consultant will work with you to develop a check list of skills necessary for your staff to effectively and competently run programs on your specific challenge course.  And then will utilize this checklist to verify the ability of your staff to perform the skills identified.  This PA audit is a valuable resource for professional development, program management and documentation for risk management.  For more information on this service call 1-800-468-8898 x 4554 or email cdamboise@pa.org.

Next steps:

Participants who have completed Adventure Program Management and hold Level 2 certification, and have documented practical program experience may be eligible to participate in Challenge Course Manager Practitioner Certification.


Tuition: $450 Meals: $45
