Adventure Based Counseling

Who should attend?

Alternative school personnel, school counselors, social workers, corrections and justice staff, teachers, recreation therapists, and residential treatment staff. This workshop is designed for those who are new to adventure programming and who work in a setting where group process and debriefing are emphasized.

You will:

  • Be able to use adventure as a transformational tool for group and individual development and group counseling.
  • Participate in and learn techniques for goal setting.
  • Learn basic facilitation skills for ground, low and high challenge course activities.
  • Learn sequencing, processing and debriefing techniques to enhance outcomes.
  • Learn the Standard Operating Procedures (safety guidelines), for low and high challenge course elements.

This four-day workshop begins at 9:00 A.M. the first day and ends by 5:00 P.M. the final day.  Registration begins at 8:30 A.M.

Next steps:  Participants who complete this workshop will be prepared to take Technical Skills Intensive and will have completed 4 of the 7 days required for Practitioner Certification Level 1- Challenge Course Technician.
