Who should attend?

Intended for any experienced challenge course facilitator who needs to update or learn the necessary technical skills to safely manage a low and high challenge course.  Because of the growth of the adventure field, including dozens of new elements and approved techniques and practices, today's practitioner needs a broader scope of technical training than ever before.

Participants will:

  • Participate in a fast-moving, advanced technical workshop with other experienced challenge course practitioners.
  • Review technical skills necessary to manage low and high challenge course elements.
  • Work with Standard Operating Procedures for challenge course elements.
  • Learn and practice high course rescue techniques including belay escapes, assisted hoists and cutaways.
  • Practice self belayed climbing and other methods of course access.
  • Learn descending techniques including rappelling, partner lowers and self-lowers.
  • Be introduced to PA's latest elements and equipment and Association for Challenge Course Technology standards.
  • Learn the basics for inspecting their own challenge course.
  • Learn skills necessary to operate complex challenge course elements and activities.

*Prerequisites
Technical Skills Intensive or equal experience.  Upon registration you will be sent an assessment form to fill out, which will be used to review your skills and ensure this is the right workshop for you.

This four-day workshop begins at 9:00 A.M. the first day and ends by 5:00 P.M. the final day. Registration begins at 8:30 A.M. on the first day.

Graduate credit: 2 or 4
CEUs: 3.2

Next steps:  Many participants who complete Advanced Skills and Standards and have completed Adventure Programming or Adventure Based Counseling, Technical Skills Intensive or the equivalent and have documented practical experience, could be eligible to participate in Practitioner Certification Level 2- Challenge Course Facilitation Testing. 

Adventure Program Management is a logical next step for most practitioners.

 


Tuition: $630 Meals: $60

For workshops located in Beverly, MA or Covington, GA, meals are required; lodging is optional. Other workshop site policies on the availability of meals and lodging vary. Please refer to site locations for more information.
