Land Management & Horticulture Internship
Description:
The Land Management and Horticultural Internship is most appropriate for those who have an interest in working outdoors maintaining a historical property including its perennial garden. Interns will learn about the maintenance of an Olmstedian property (Frederick Law Olmsted was a well-known landscape architect from the turn of the century). Interns will also aid in the efforts to manage the hemlock disease (the woolly adelgid infestation) currently impacting our property. Other tasks may include transplanting, pruning, and removing trees and shrubbery.
Potential Responsibilities:
- Maintain historic perennial garden, flower beds and landscape features around the property
- Assist with general grounds maintenance and landscaping projects and with coordination of special events
- Assist Property Manager with documentation of advancement of the woolly adelgid infestation
- Assist Challenge Course Manager with periodic mulching and maintenance of tree health on the challenge course
NOTE: Responsibilities will vary based on intern’s skill level, area of interest and the current needs of Project Adventure staff.
Qualifications:
- Organizational and communication skills
- Computer skills helpful (Microsoft Word and Digital Photography)
- Independent and responsible worker
- Enthusiastic learner and ability to work in the outdoors
- Ability to commit to a 3-4 month position
