Getting Started

Getting Started on Your Challenge Course

Contact one of our customer service representatives at 1-800-468-8898 to talk about your physical site, programmatic goals and budget.

  • Based on your site and the type of course that best suits your needs, we will let you know if a physical site evaluation is required or if we can design a proposal from digital photos or videos.
  • Taking into consideration your programmatic goals, budget and the results of the site evaluation, we will design a proposal that outlines what elements are possible.
  • Advanced planning is essential as our installation calendar is often booked 3-6 months into the future. Once you have received funding and are ready to schedule services, contact us immediately.

Aside from contacting a Project Adventure consultant for advice, the following are some ways for you to begin.

  • Attend one of our open enrollment workshops and become immersed in an Adventure experience.
  • Deepen your understanding of the Adventure experience through our publications.
  • Work with our training team to develop a custom workshop tailored to your organization's needs.
  • Schedule a site and program consultation visit by one of our in-house experts.

Some Issues to Consider in Preparation for Installation

Insurance. Notify your existing insurance carrier. Generally you can add an Adventure program to your existing liability policy. If you need additional information, contact one of our customer service specialists.

Building permits. You are responsible for obtaining any necessary permits and complying with all local health department, construction and zoning laws.

Property Concerns. Be sure your organization owns and controls the land you intend to use. Also ensure that you have, or do not need to have, permission from neighbors and abutters to install the challenge course.

Utilities. Before installing a utility pole course, all underground utilities (gas, electric, water, sewer, telephone, etc.) must be located and marked. Your local utility may provide this service free of charge.

Consult With Your Staff. Meet with your staff to discuss goals for implementing the Adventure program. Identify target populations. Brainstorm ideas. Have fun!

Network. Visit another challenge course site. Meet with staff from other sites who have been through the process of starting a program.
